ABOUT ME
Paula Nieto
My beginnings were in painting and photography. A few years later I became interested in 3D creation when I first saw the computer-generated backgrounds in an animation series for which I had worked creating the transitions in pencil.
After learning how to use a 3D program I started working in video games. It was 2001. My first character of my own was Home Groso; an amorphous, soft, expressionless being. I was tired of counting polygons to add muscles to super-strong warriors. My character emerged as an unconscious response to so much epic.
Since then I have continued to explore physicality and digital space with a great interest in sculpture and installation.
In 2021 I restarted the artistic career that I had interrupted years before. I rented a space in an artists' community, seeking to define and focus my artistic interests. After trying several directions, I focused on 3D printing and virtual reality.
From 2022-24, I joined the TPK artist-in-residence group in L'Hospitalet (Barcelona), where I began to develop my projects.
I am interested in borders. Perspective. Physical and mental limits. The idea of shared space versus personal space. There are other underlying themes in my works such as: absurdity, emptiness, uncertainty, indefinite spaces, artifice and humorous.
